Regis Prograis is already training following his 10-round unanimous decision win over Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz in a war on August 2nd. The former two-division light welterweight world champion Prograis (30-3, 24 KOs) picked up his first win in two years since 2023, and he was motivated by it.
Chasing Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia
Regis, 36, has high hopes of transmuting the victory over ‘JoJo’ Diaz into a big-money fight opportunity on one of Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season cards. Prograis rattled off these names for who would like to fight next:
– Devin Haney
– Ryan Garcia
– Oscar Duarte
– Jose Ramirez
For Turki to want to use Prograis on his Riyadh Season events, he would likely expect a big name. Of course, the undercard for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford event next month has mostly smaller-name fighters involved in lackluster fights.

If Regis wasn’t so beat up, he’d be perfect for the card in a long-overdue fight against former unified light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez or Ryan Garcia. A fight between them would be interesting for fans if Kingry were willing to engage. He looked gunshy on the May 2nd Times Square card in his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.
Prograis’s Punch Resistance Problem
Prograis’s punch resistance appears to be gone now. He was hurt multiple times by the non-puncher JoJo Diaz, and he’d been dropped in his three previous fights by Jack Catterall, Devin Haney, and Danielito Zorrilla. Fighting a motivated Ryan Garcia would be risky for Regis if Kingry were willing to let his hands go.
The performance by Prograis wasn’t good enough for him to deserve a world title shot at 140. Even if he got the chance to fight for a belt, it wouldn’t end well for him fighting the champions Gary Antuanne Russell, Subriel Matias, Teofimo Lopez, or Richardson Hitchins. Those fighters are all competing at a much higher level than what Regis showed against Diaz.
