The charismatic Edgar Berlanga dominated today’s kickoff press conference, trash-talking his opponent Hamzah Sheeraz, telling him that if he comes to fight, he’s going to wind up as his 18th first-round knockout victim on July 12th in Queens, New York. Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) put the scare in the unbeaten Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs), telling him how he’s going to end up in the dirt in their main event fight.
Berlanga’s First-Round Promise
Edgar says he believes Hamzah’s new trainer, Andy Lee, is going to have him running around the ring like a “Ballerina” to keep him from getting knocked out. He knows he’s not going to want to mix it up with him.
The monitor in charge of the press conference was trying to keep Berlanga from talking some of the time, and getting in the way of the good discussion. It would have been better to have someone else in charge, like Todd Grisham. He’s more lenient and brings humor. Today’s monitor was more of an obstacle, cutting in when Edgar was trying to talk.

“I go out, throw a few jabs, land a right hand, and knock him out,” said Hamzah Sheeraz.
“He’s going to be my 18th first-round knockout,” said Edgar Berlanga. “If he comes to fight in the first round, I’m knocking him out. “You got a gift your last fight. That’s why you fired your trainer. You think you’re going to come over here and f*** with me. You’re going to have to kill me.”
You can tell from the way super middleweight contender Berlanga was talking, he means business on July 12th. Sheeraz is going to need to fight a lot better than he showed in his last fight against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames if he wants to survive on his feet. Berlanga says he’s going to take him into the trenches.
