Keyshawn Davis’s ‘Narcissistic’ Stance: Claiming Roach ‘Earned’ A Title Shot

WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis says Lamont Roach has “earned” the right to fight him and the other champs in the 135-lb division following his 12-round majority draw against WBA belt-holder Gervonta Davis on March 1st.

Roach has been a world champion longer than Keyshawn, and it should be him that is talking in bold terms. Keyshawn comes across like a classic example of a narcissist with how he talks like he’s been a world champion for years rather than being a newbie, capturing his WBO belt from the weakest link, Denys Berinchyk on February 14th last month.

Keyshawn Overreaching?

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) has gone from being a no-name to being sought after by the fighters at lightweight after he made Tank Davis look like a mere mortal. The fight that Roach wants next is a well-paying rematch with Gervonta, not a low-paying one against Keyshawn. That fights a big step down.

“He definitely fought his way into a position to fight me. You put in the work, you earned the right to be in the ring with these world champs. I’d love to fight Lamont [Roach],” said Keyshawn Davis to Shawn Porter’s YouTube channel, about wanting to defend his WBO lightweight title against Lamont Roach next.

What on earth made Davis think he’s some kind of King? Did Top Rank plant those ideas into his head, bigging him up? Keyshawn hasn’t beaten the type of opposition during his career for him to be acting like he’s ‘the guy’ in the lightweight division. He’s more paper champion than a true one.

The way Keyshawn went beserk on Berinchyk during the final press conference, accusing him of being a racist and sending a box of bananas to his room, Roach doesn’t need to waste his time with him. It seemed like a big set-up to create interest in Keyshawn’s fight.

It was foul the way he labeled Berinchyk a racist, acting as if his suspicions were a proven fact. That was so wrong the way Keyshawn did him. Berinchyk made to look like he’s a racist for nothing.
