If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight this year in 2025, who would win?
The rivalry between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is one that has existed for years, but it has only existed outside the ring and in theoretical terms. Once upon a time, Fury was the WBC and lineal world heavyweight champion, Joshua was the unified IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, and the expectation was that these two would have an inevitable showdown for undisputed heavyweight supremacy. That never happened, however.
Right now Fury and Joshua are both showing signs of decline. Joshua has a 6-4 record across his last 10 fights, which included a loss against Andy Ruiz Jr, a pair of losses against the reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk, and most recently he was destroyed by Daniel Dubois. Fury is coming off of back to back losses, the only 2 losses of his professional career, both against Usyk. In the end, neither Fury nor Joshua proved to be the best in this era. Instead it was Oleksandr Usyk who conquered the division, and he did so in very impressive style, becoming the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in the modern 4-belt era following his first of two victories against Fury.
As far as Usyk is concerned, the most logical next opponent for him would be the winner of the upcoming fight between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker. However, the winner of that fight might possibly get the opportunity for a much bigger payday than he would against Usyk if he instead defends against Fury, or especially Joshua. Short of that, assuming the winner of Dubois-Parker faces Usyk next, then a fight between Fury and AJ makes a lot of sense for both Fury and Joshua.
The truth of the matter is even though neither one of them is champion, and even though they are both past their best, a fight between Fury and Joshua remains an interesting prospect with lasting legacy implications for both heavyweights. It would also still undoubtedly be a huge event where both fighters would be in line to earn an awful lot of money.
